Balchik is a place you could happily never leave. But its position between two famous stretches of the Bulgarian coast makes it a perfect base for day trips — each short enough to be back for a late swim.

Three easy drives
Cape Kaliakra — a narrow headland of red cliffs stepping into the sea, where the wind is strong and the view runs for miles. A walk of an hour will do it, with a fort and a chapel along the way.
Albena — a wide, family-friendly beach resort, perfect if you want a gentler sand and a proper beach day without a thought in the world.
Aladzha Monastery — a rock-hewn cave monastery tucked into a forest near Golden Sands. Cool, quiet and unlike anything else on this coast, it makes a fine shady stop on a hot afternoon.
Rent a car for a day or ask us to arrange a driver — then come home to a sunset over the Balchik marina.
